Abstract: The Kervaire invariant is the obstruction for a framed cobordism class to have a homotopy sphere. It is important to know if this invariant is non-trivial when classifying homotopy spheres in a given dimension. We will give an account on recent joint work with Lin and Xu solving the last case of the Kervaire invariant problem in dimension 126.
Bio: Guozhen Wang is a professor from Fudan University, Shanghai, China. His main interest is algebraic topology. His main contribution lies in the computations of stable homotopy groups. He and collaborators has developed methods such as motivic deformation to push forward our knowledge of stable homotopy groups of spheres and other spectra, which has many applications such as the classification of homotopy spheres.
