A Joint Program with MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics

A Joint Program with MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics

Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) is the highest-ranked university in Russia, with a consistent position within the global top 150 of the world university ranking. Considered one of the most prestigious and international universities in Russia, it welcomes more than 47,000 students, including 4,000 international students.

In 2022, MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics jointly with the Institute for Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (ITMP MSU) launches a new international master's program Geometry and Quantum Fields, a 2-year course in mathematics, theoretical physics, and their applications. The focus of the program is the physics and mathematics of fundamental interactions with an emphasis on modern developments motivated by quantum gravity. The unique feature of the program is a combination of mathematical disciplines, particularly in geometry, along with courses in field theory, gravity, string theory and holography. The program also comprises an individual research project supervised by leading researchers from MSU or other partner-institutes in Moscow. Students will have an opportunity to discuss cutting edge research and perform their own M.Sc. dissertation work under the supervision of researchers from the ITMP, academic staff of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, as well as active scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and other local/foreign reputable scientific research institutes who are world class experts in the fields of mathematics and physics.

The program provides students with a good starting point for the academic career in both mathematics and physics as well as a career in more applied areas where the ability to think independently and originally at a rather abstract level is a necessary condition.
